Director of Photography

Job Description

We are seeking an energetic Freelance Production Director of Photography. Must be self-motivated, creative, and willing to be a part of a small, highly-efficient team. Must work effectively with Director/Producer, Field Producer, Camera B, and operate Camera A. Must be efficient and highly productive in order to accomplish production on a tight schedule. During production, provide support and assistance as needed; Must be a team player. Set-up and breakdown of equipment is required for each shoot. Traveling is required. Availability for pre-production meetings (video or in-person).

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • The director of photography is responsible for translating the director’s vision into images captured during production

Pre Production

  • Work with the director to craft the visual style and mood of the show and of each specific episode or segment
  • Write detailed shot list based on the episode breakdown and scouting photos


  • Block all camera angles and movements
  • Direct crew on lighting
  • Guide the camera operators, sound, and grips throughout the shoot
  • Operate Camera A
  • May be required to string out the first cut of the video from provided script

What We Need:

  • 5+ years of experience in video production
  • High proficiency with Sony and GoPro Cameras
  • Editing experience is a plus, but not necessary
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Must be willing to travel; International travel may be required (passport is needed)
  • Overtime on a case by case basis
  • Lighting experience is a must
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record
  • Ensure safety and cleanliness of all equipment used
  • Excellent eye for video composition
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
